Boston Herald Boston Globe Newspaper in Education

"The Boston Globe's Newspaper in Education program provides half-price newspapers, free curriculum materials and free educational supplements to schools throughout Greater Boston and beyond."

New York Times Learning Network

Students can read the day's top stories using Knowledge Tools, take a news quiz about today's world, and play special crossword puzzles. Students can also submit a letter to the editor, ask a reporter a question, or submit a science question and search through the Science Q&A archive.

Teachers can access a daily lesson plan for grades 6-12, written in partnership with The Bank Street College of Education in New York City. Each lesson plan and the article it references can be printed out for classroom use. Previous lessons are available in the archive and in thematic lesson plan units. Teachers can also use News Snapshot, aimed for grades 3-5, to explore Current events through New York Times photos and related questions. The site additionally provides teachers with the latest education news from the newspaper.

Parents can enhance their child's understanding of Current events using Learning at Home, join an online discussion, explore the family movie guide, read a recent product review or participate with their children in the activities in the student section.

WGBH

The WGBH "Learn" web page is designed for "teachers, adult learners, childcare providers, school administrators, informal educators and home schoolers." Main areas include "Teacher Training," "Teacher Center," "For The Classroom," and "Web Features."

Classroom Connect

This address connects you directly to Classroom Connect's homepage, where you will find links to more than 300 of the Net's most useful educational sites. The links are updated twice weekly and a portion of the site is devoted to noteable home pages from K-12 schools all over the world.

Discovery Channel School

The History Channel

The History Channel's web page is packed with information for teachers, students and afficianados. Explore the site for lesson plan ideas and answers to homework questions.  The site's main features  include "Search Any Topic In History," "This Day In History, " Great Speeches" and "Classroom."

Britannica.com lets visitors "click" through Encyclopedia Britannica.

Family Education.com

This site provides "useful information and interactive communication tools to help busy parents help their children succeed. Includes quizzes, polls, discussion groups and articles on parenting and education subjects. Also includes a network of local school Web sites, with school calendars and community-level info enabling parent-school connection."

The Hands-On Children's Museum
Described as the "fun place to be for kids 10 years old and under," this site Currently has an online exhibit entitled Ocean Odyssey where children can go on an ocean adventure without getting wet. The site also provides excellent links to other resources on ocean life.

City.Net
Click on the map at this site to locate information about almost any place on Earth. Learn about a region's culture, language, history and more. An excellent starting point for doing country and state reports.

Interesting Places for Kids
This site is a table of contents of sites for kids. It contains links to other sites for all areas of the curriculum, including art, literature, science and math. Especially good are the sections of tips on how to enjoy time on the web and how to use search engines. Try exploring this site with a small person.
